Special Free Series with Rich Schrader

Group Discussion Series on James Joyce’s Ulysses

Rich Schrader, a long-time participant in Community Shakespeare, will lead a group discussion on James Joyce’s masterpiece, Ulysses, this summer.

We’ll discuss Joyce’s influences (and not just Homer and Shakespeare), untangle the rich, multiple plot details of the novel, trace the book’s historical, literary and political themes and dig into Joyce’s stylistic innovations. But mostly we’ll have fun enjoying the book’s gorgeous language and comedy. Too many scholars have missed that point — along with the great writing, Ulysses is a comedy of manners.

A list of recommended books and articles (nothing aside from the novel is mandatory reading), along with a Zoom link, will be sent out in June.
